BCS Elections 2009: On the Ballot

Bryan City Council Propositions

Proposition No. 1
Shall Section 5 (f), City Council Compensation, of the Bryan City Charter be amended by
changing the word “Compensation” to “Salary” in the caption to clarify that Bryan City
Councilmembers receive $120 annual salary, subject to federal income tax reporting and
withholding, without increasing the actual amount of pay received by Councilmembers?

Proposition No. 2
Shall Sections 12 and 13, Finance and Taxation, of the Bryan City Charter be amended by
clarifying that the chief finance officer’s duties are assigned by the City Manager; modernizing
other language to reflect standard and acceptable accounting and budgeting procedures; and
adding that the City shall comply with federal laws as well as state laws in the areas of finance,
budgeting, taxation and fees?

Proposition No. 3
Shall Sections 5 (l) (6), 12 (d), 16 (b), 16 (n) (2), 16 (r), and 16 (s) of the Bryan City Charter be
amended to correct punctuation by adding or deleting commas, and to correct grammar, without
making substantive changes to the Charter?

Proposition to Authorize the City of Bryan to Dispose of Unused Parkland

Proposition
Shall the City of Bryan be authorized to dispose of 0.7819 acre of unused, undeveloped,
landlocked parkland located on West Villa Maria Road, between Finfeather Road and
Forestwood Drive, being Lot 3, Block 1, Villa West Subdivision Section 1, Bryan, Brazos
County, Texas, in accordance with State law and the Bryan City Charter?

Special Petition-Initiated Proposed Amendment to the Bryan City Charter

Proposition
Shall Section 5 of the Bryan City Charter entitled “City Council” be amended by adding:
(j)(1) a. Council agenda.
1. The City Council shall identify items to place on the City Council meeting agenda
and shall establish the order of the agenda.
2. Any two City Council members desiring a particular item to be placed on the City
Council agenda shall notify the City Secretary in writing. The item shall be placed
on the agenda as requested.
3. This section of the charter supersedes any city CODE OF ORDINANCES with
which it conflicts?
